Teeth Whitening in Bingham Farms, MI

A Brighter Smile, Today

Your smile can say a lot about you, especially in situations where first impressions are important. When your teeth become stained over time, it can make us less confident to smile. Rather than settling for a lackluster smile you’re unhappy with—SmileCreator of Bringham Farms offers effective teeth whitening solutions so that you can reclaim your confident smile once again.

Dr. Kosinski offers both BriteSmile® and Zoom!® whitening systems so that we can help you create your dream smile.

Candidates for Teeth Whitening

Our teeth whitening systems can address and correct most stains and are suitable for most patients. As long as your teeth and gums are healthy and free from decay, you can benefit from a teeth whitening treatment. Teeth whitening can be used to address the following:

  • Off-colored, stained teeth
  • Stains that don’t extend past the enamel layer
  • Teeth stains due to medication or age

If you suffer from the effects of tooth decay or periodontal disease, Dr. Kosinski may recommend other procedures designed to increase your oral wellness prior. There are some additional circumstances that can hinder teeth whitening results:

  • Patients under 16: Younger patients have more pulp within their teeth which can cause irritation if a teeth whitening procedure is performed.
  • Patients who are pregnant or lactating: Pregnancy and lactation can cause oral health changes due to the influx of hormones which can make teeth whitening ineffective. While teeth whitening treatments CAN be done on pregnant and lactating patients, it’s NOT recommended.
  • Patients with deep stains: If the discoloration of your teeth extends past the enamel layer, teeth whitening may not be effective. If this is the case, Dr. Kosinski may recommend a different cosmetic procedure in order to help you achieve your desired smile.
  • Sensitivities and allergies: Tooth sensitivity following teeth whitening is a common side effect. If you already have sensitive teeth, it can impact your candidacy for a teeth whitening treatment. As well, if you have allergies to peroxide, you won’t be able to undergo a teeth whitening treatment as peroxide is the active ingredient in teeth whitening systems.
  • Restorations: Dental fillings, bonding, crowns, bridges, and implants are all stain resistant which means that although they’ll never lose their luster, they can’t be whitened. If you’re considering a dental restoration, we recommend getting a teeth whitening procedure done prior so that your restoration can be color-matched to the rest of your natural teeth.

How Teeth Whitening Works

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure aimed at whitening stained or discolored teeth. Professional teeth whitening works by exposing your teeth to a specialized bleaching solution designed to oxidize the stains from the surface of your teeth. The solution lifts the stains from the enamel layer of your teeth, resulting in a smile that’s several shades whiter within one session.

During your consultation, Dr. Kosinski will go over your smile goals in order to determine which type of whitening is best for you before creating a personalized plan for your treatment. At SmileCreator, we offer both in-office and take-home whitening kits.

Our Teeth Whitening Solutions

In-Office Whitening
In-Office Whitening
When you visit our office, we’ll administer and monitor your teeth whitening process so you can sit back and relax while we bring out your best smile. The teeth whitening process can be completed within one visit.

In addition to discussing your smile goals, Dr. Kosinski will also evaluate your overall oral wellness to ensure you’re a good candidate for teeth whitening. As long as there are no underlying issues that need to be addressed, we’ll be able to move forward.

During your teeth whitening appointment, we’ll thoroughly clean your teeth to ensure the best results possible before covering your gums and lips with a protective gauze and gel. We’ll then apply a dental-grade whitening agent to your teeth and expose your teeth to a safe blue LED light for three consecutive 15-20 minute sessions depending on the product used. The LED light oxidizes and lifts the stains from the enamel layer of the teeth while the gel eliminates them.

You’ll leave with a smile that’s several shades lighter than when you arrived!

Take-Home Kits
Take-Home Kits
Our take-home whitening kits allow you to whiten your teeth from the comfort of your home. A professional take-home kit can produce a smile that’s exponentially whiter than what store-bought stirps are capable of. The results of at-home kits do take longer to appear than in-office whitening and the process is a little different.

Following your consultation, Dr. Konsiski will take detained impressions of your teeth. We’ll use them to create customized trays for you to use during your treatment. Once the trays are made, you’ll receive them as well as the whitening gel in easy-to-use syringes.

Before using your whitening tray, it’s important to brush and floss your teeth to maximize your results. You’ll then fill the tray with the whitening gel according to your instructions and wear the trays for the prescribed amount of time. After your time is done, remove the trays, gently rinse them and store them until your next session. From there, simply brush your teeth to reveal a brighter smile. Within two weeks, you’ll see a noticeable difference in your smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes stained teeth?

Is teeth whitening painful?

No—while it’s common to feel a little discomfort, teeth whitening is a painless non-invasive procedure. Following treatment, it’s common to feel tooth sensitivity for anywhere between 24-48 hours. If the sensitivity continues, we recommend scheduling an appointment with Dr. Kosinski as soon as possible by calling our Bingham Farms office at (248) 646-8651.

What's the difference between Zoom!® and BriteSmile®?

Both Zoom!® and BriteSmile® are professional-grade teeth whitening systems that result in a brighter smile that can last for years with proper care.

The main difference is that with Zoom!®, it takes less time to whiten your teeth. Your teeth can become about eight shades whiter. BriteSmile® takes a little longer but your teeth can appear about nine shades lighter after treatment.

How do I prolong my white smile?

During the first 24-48 hours, it’s important to avoid foods and beverages that can stain your teeth. As well, keeping your teeth clean and free from plaque and tartar can keep your teeth stain-free. Keeping your teeth clean involves:

  • Brushing your teeth twice a day
  • Flossing your teeth once a day (preferably before bed)
  • Rinsing after meals to keep your mouth free of debris
  • Scheduling dental appointments with Dr. Kosinski at least once every six months

What causes stained teeth?

There are a variety of factors that contribute to stained or discolored teeth such as:

  • Age—as we get older, our teeth naturally lose their shine and can become off-colored over time.
  • Inconsistent Oral Hygiene—Daily brushing, flossing, and rinsing after meals can not only preserve the health of your teeth but also their appearance.
  • Tobacco—Nicotine is notorious for staining teeth. Both smoking and chewing tobacco can cause your teeth to turn yellow over time.
  • Some Foods and Beverages—Beverages such as coffee, tea, soda, and red wine as well as foods like vibrant fruits, colored candy, and curry can all leave your teeth darkened and stained over time.
  • Certain Medications—Sometimes antibiotics such as doxycycline or tetracycline can lead to tooth discoloration.
